‘Such a thing of wonder’ ii
76 x 122cm
This painting references back to the Nightlight collection where my fascination travelled to further horizons and influences in our solar system whilst also celebrating an ‘elevated’ colour palette. I’m intrigued by the notion of whether colour exists in our galaxy independent of the human eye.
Can we only experience galactic colours through photography and other instruments that capture and magnify?
The Maunakea Observatories in Hawaaii sited their visitor centre below the summit, as there was not enough oxygen for the eye to function effectively. I still feel there are many paintings to come from this line of enquiry, and it is with hope that I will be afforded the opportunity to travel to Maunakea to enable me to paint from seeing it with my own eyes – or not…
‘Such a thing of wonder’ is the last remaining painting from the 2014 Kaleidoscopic Collection.
