‘Treasure’

sold

£4,250

91 x 152cm

A panoramic composition which could wrap around and join up as the jewel like colours meet and link into each other at either end. Turning a 180′ view into an all surrounding, all encompassing 360′. At the centre of this painting is a white focal point on the horizon, this can be read in a number of ways but the most popular seems to be a mountain range or mountain tops.  One of the dilemma’s I was faced with when I was painting this, was whether to leave these marks here or to blend them out. It takes me courage to leave a mark like this. My comfortable place is in ambiguity.  But here I realised that the white marks help shift the focus through to the far distance and in fact have added to the narrative by becoming ‘something’ rather than a tool or ploy to enhance an overall feeling.  Normally a mark like this is always lost or buried. Like treasure.
